Tryouts & Team Formations

How do tryouts work?
SPBA hosts two tryout sessions in September during which players are assessed by outside evaluators. No parents or other representatives are allowed to be present during the sessions.

How are teams formed?
Players are placed on teams based on:

  1. Tryout ratings provided by the outside evaluators
  2. Evaluation information from previous years' coaches (if applicable)

The number of participants will determine how many teams are formed per grade level.

How are team levels (A, B, or C) determined?
SPBA will register teams for tournaments based on A, B, or C competition levels. Our goal is to make sure that teams are placed in the appropriate competition level so they are challenged but also having fun.

If a grade level has four teams, SPBA typically forms one A, one B, and two C teams. SPBA makes every effort to ensure the two C teams are evenly split.
